Vocational rehabilitation

What kind of experiences do you have with vocational rehabilitation?

My work capacity has decreased, and this option has come up. Unemployment is not an option, because dividend income prevents unemployment benefits, and I cannot live in Finland on my dividend income.

What kind of business model do the partners of pension insurance companies have?

I have expressed my desire to study a profession where remote work would be natural, and I consider a high-quality local vocational school suitable for myself, where one can study for a vocational qualification in business and try to get internships at a company where remote work is natural.

The pension insurance company’s partner is trying to direct me to work for local companies where remote work is not natural, and to attend school a couple of days a month at some vague school far from home.

Perhaps it’s wisest for me to find a 3-month “free” work trial period for an employer in Finland myself, at a place where remote work is natural, and if/when both parties are interested, to complete my studies at that company at the pension insurance company’s expense.

Hi, I don’t know much about the matter itself, but I’ll focus on the point “unemployment is not an option, because dividend income prevents unemployment benefits,” which, to my understanding, is not true in Finland up to a certain limit. You can receive labor market support even if you receive capital income at the same time. The attached article explains in more detail the limits on how much capital income you can earn.

Of course, it’s a different matter if the dividends exceed those limits.

Good link and possibly in the right place too. I can clarify the phrase “Unemployment is not an option” to mean that it is not an option in Finland. In my case, Sweden could be an option, as there are no such restrictions there. Being an independent in a country with more moderate taxation and cost of living is also an option. My own situation is difficult in many ways, but I cannot describe it as bad. I still have a lot of work capacity left, if only I have the opportunity to utilize it.

I don’t have personal experience with vocational rehabilitation, but earlier, several employees I knew who were almost burnt out or had clearly lost their work capacity, retrained with adult education support (15 months subsidized) so they could switch to completely different tasks.
Unfortunately, that possibility was removed last year, and I didn’t realize / didn’t have time to take advantage of it myself, and now starting as a student would be financially devastating.

My own work capacity has clearly deteriorated in recent years, and even though I try to take care of my fitness, my body just keeps breaking down and showing symptoms. I regularly check the situation with a physiotherapist, but since the biggest problem is nerve pain, it feels quite frustrating at times.

The previous answer had well covered the situation of how one might receive social benefits when becoming unemployed.
I have just enough capital income that after the earnings-related unemployment allowance, it wouldn’t even be sensible to be an unemployed job seeker, because I live alone and being tormented by bureaucracy for a few tens of euros a month would be sheer madness. It was interesting to learn that if I get a (common-law) wife, I would be entitled to labor market support even after the earnings-related unemployment allowance. This is quite discriminatory towards single dwellers.

The earnings-related unemployment allowance accrues some pension, so some easy, low-paying odd job for a year in the north might be of interest in the future and would be a nice change.

For now, I’m persevering in working life, but the plan is to resign from work within a couple of years and hold on until I start drawing 50% OVE.

The decision on vocational rehabilitation is surprisingly difficult to change into a fixed-term partial rehabilitation allowance, even though the path to becoming fit for work through surgery is completely open. A private hospital wants to operate for a fee and claims the outcome is sufficient for one’s own profession. Public sector doctors don’t have time to fit into the schedule but are pushed into a 450-euro, 12-month online training, which will reveal the secrets of a new profession.

Addition: Vocational rehabilitation has not even been applied for. It is granted without application.

This is quite a double-edged sword.
It’s true that certainly 1/3 of people are not able to work.

I dare to guess that 90% of that 1/3 suffer from substance abuse problems.

Substance addiction is a disease, there’s nothing strange about that, but is it society’s duty to pay their rents and throw a little money at them so that the same lifestyle continues? Or should different treatments be tried?
For example, when an addict who buys Subutex from the street is a junkie, but when a doctor prescribes the same, they are socially acceptable. When will alcoholics get free booze then…

Again, we get to the point that if one’s life management has gone, it’s probably better to gather the whole group in one place, somewhere in a remote village, and offer a roof, hygiene, and food. It will be cheaper in the long run.

The same applies to immigrants; it’s not really clear to me why society pays for their lives in Helsinki when there are empty apartments much more affordably in the provinces.

For the poor, disability means that money is paid under the wrong designation, complicated by bureaucracy. For the small investor, it means that no compensation is paid.

Vocational rehabilitation was supposed to go on a 3-month break, but it seems to have been interrupted, as messages are not being answered and co-determination negotiations have started. I recommend stock saving to everyone.

So what happened?

This seems to be changing next year (or whenever it was), when all kinds of income will start affecting the new general support.

Vocational rehabilitation, i.e., retraining, was supposed to go on a 3-month break. After the co-determination negotiations began, I contacted the pension company’s contractor, but they didn’t respond to messages. When I went to the pension company’s website, it redirected to a new pension company, so it’s likely that retraining is no longer an option.
