Amazon - When will growth limits be reached?

In some countries, Prime Video is bundled with the Prime subscription (available in a couple of dozen countries), and the rest of the world can subscribe to just Prime Video without that “free shipping” subscription. The video service’s popularity has been slowly rising. They have also recently added other streaming services that can be purchased through Prime Video. At least in Finland, they offer Apple TV and Showtime content through Prime Video (for an additional subscription fee), and I find this to be an interesting direction. The next logical step is that they start offering a discounted bundle where, in addition to Amazon’s content, you get other providers together for cheaper, all through the same service. There isn’t anything like this yet, but…

Amazon is ending its long-standing delivery partnership with the United States Postal Service (USPS).

According to the article, the decision is a heavy blow to the financially struggling USPS, which will lose billions of dollars in revenue. This change naturally shifts deliveries to Amazon’s own logistics network, allowing for better control, but simultaneously threatens up to 100,000 jobs in the postal sector. In addition to these points, the termination of the partnership could weaken service reliability and speed, particularly in sparsely populated rural areas where the public postal service has been a vital distribution channel.

The article also highlights that this historic turn underscores the growing power of e-commerce giants relative to these traditional institutions.

At the same time, Amazon’s decision reflects a broader industry trend toward vertical integration. By handling more deliveries internally, Amazon gains tighter control over speed, costs, and customer experience. However, critics warn that this shift could strain delivery coverage in rural communities where USPS historically provided the most reliable service, potentially reshaping how millions of Americans receive online purchases.

Let’s post about this familiar news in this thread: Amazon Pharmacy is adding Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy weight-loss pill to its selection, thus grabbing its share of this GLP-1 boom.

For insured patients, a monthly dose can cost $25, while for cash-paying customers, it starts from $149. Next, the medication will also be available in Amazon’s prescription vending machines at selected One Medical clinics, supporting fast delivery and price transparency.

This strengthens Amazon’s healthcare push and directs customers to its digital pharmacy, where it seeks future growth.

Amazon is now investing in robotics instead of increasing its headcount. “Duh!”

The goal is, of course, to scale margins and improve operational efficiency, as the number of robots is already approaching the number of human employees.

According to the Financial Times, Amazon is seeking to reduce the payments it makes to suppliers of products sold on its e-commerce platform.

Amazon aims to roll back previous concessions that were used to mitigate the impact of tariffs imposed by Trump. This means that Amazon is adjusting its supplier payments back to being tighter and leaner following the tariff arrangements.

Amazon is asking a federal judge to block Saks Global’s bankruptcy financing arrangement.

The company believes the plan weakens the position of creditors and pushes Amazon even further down the repayment queue. Amazon invested 475 million in connection with Saks’ Neiman Marcus deal but now considers the stake virtually worthless, as it claims Saks has fallen short of its budget, burned through hundreds of millions in less than a year, and accumulated massive unpaid bills to its partners.

Amazon is hoping for some form of settlement but simultaneously hints at being prepared for even more drastic measures.

The tweet illustrates Amazon’s extensive ecosystem, meaning Amazon’s own services are at the center, surrounded by the company’s competitors in various industries, such as streaming, retail, and logistics, etc. Amazon is indeed involved in a bit of everything.

Amazon aims to cut as many as 30,000 corporate roles worldwide.

The layoffs, starting next week, will hit at least the AWS and Prime Video units. CEO Andy Jassy justifies these decisions as cutting bureaucracy; the “effects” of AI are also surely a major factor.

This series of cuts marks the largest headcount reduction in the online retailer’s three-decade history, surpassing the 27,000 jobs eliminated in 2022. The strategy reflects a broader corporate trend of using technology and restructuring to reduce bureaucracy and reliance on human labor.

Jobs in Amazon’s AWS, retail, Prime Video, and HR divisions are set to be impacted, the sources told Reuters, noting that plans could change. Amazon stock rose 0.2% in after-hours trade following the report.
