Amazon plans to invest $10 billion in new data centers in North Carolina.
The project will create 500 jobs and is part of the company’s approximately $100 billion investment plan for this year, most of which is directed towards artificial intelligence, including this project. Amazon is heavily investing in the development of generative AI.

Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellites’ second launch has been postponed due to bad weather.
The article below reports that United Launch Alliance announced the launch would take place from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on June 16.
This is therefore the second attempt to place Amazon’s satellites into low Earth orbit. The goal is to build a competitor to Starlink, and thus Amazon must launch 1,618 satellites by July 2026 to meet regulatory requirements.

The article below discusses how Amazon has restructured its healthcare business, dividing it into six different areas with the aim of simplifying operations and accelerating development. The reorganization follows the departure of several key personnel from the company, which has increased pressure to clarify what appears to be its strategy.
Amazon has invested in healthcare with multi-billion dollar acquisitions, such as the purchases of PillPack and One Medical, and although some projects have failed, the company continues to expand with new clinics and pharmacy services, among others.
Growth is happening, but competition is tough and margins are narrow.

EDIT:
SalkunRakentaja has published an article about Amazon, and it discusses the stablecoin mentioned earlier in the thread.
Tech giants Amazon and retail chain Walmart are exploring the possibility of issuing their own stablecoin cryptocurrencies. This is a significant opening that could revolutionize e-commerce payment traffic and challenge traditional payment systems and credit card companies.
Subheadings:
- What is a stablecoin?
- Regulation determines the schedule

I haven’t followed this project as closely as through these individual news items, meaning Amazon’s Project Kuiper satellites’ second launch was delayed due to a rocket engine issue.
United Launch Alliance announced that a new launch date will be announced later. Amazon plans to start offering broadband service using the satellites later this year and aims for a network of over 3,000 satellites, as has been previously mentioned in this thread.

AWS is developing its own chips, such as Graviton4 and Trainium, to reduce its dependence on Nvidia and lower AI-related costs. The latest chips offer high performance and are already in use, for example, in Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4 model.
This field, especially concerning Amazon, has remained quite unfamiliar to me.

I came across news that Amazon.com has entered the car sales business. Starting with Hyundai, whose models are sold in 68 countries through Amazon. Fan Jin, head of Amazon Autos, has announced that Amazon is open to other brands as well, and the next step is to expand into used car sales. This positions the company directly as a competitor with other players in the industry.
Amazon’s online platform allows buyers to view vehicles and proceed with the purchase process digitally, but the cars come from local dealerships’ inventories.

The article below discusses how Amazon’s “return policies” cause significant problems for small sellers, such as return fraud and incorrect reshipment of used products.
Many sellers are considering leaving Amazon’s “logistics program” due to costs. However, with new fees and warning labels, return rates have slightly decreased. The article also states how returns increase product prices and cause a huge amount of waste.

The article below discusses how many retailers have tried to transition into third-party service platforms with a RaaS model (Robotics as a Service?), but most fail due to lack of scale, capital, and technology.
The story talks about how Amazon’s success is based on its unique scale and decades of significant investment. For others, such as Zalando and Next, margins remain low because the market is limited and competitive risks are high.

Amazon has launched its second batch of Project Kuiper internet satellites from Florida with an Atlas V rocket.
27 satellites joined the company’s growing network, which aims to provide global broadband connectivity.
Amazon is challenging Elon Musk’s Starlink and plans to launch over 3,200 satellites by 2026.

Amazon will invest 40 billion pounds in the UK over three years to build new warehouses, improve logistics, and expand its operations, among other things.
The investment will create thousands of jobs, including in Hull and Northampton, and the government is pleased. Amazon is also developing the Bray Film Studios it acquired in Berkshire.

The article below tells how Amazon’s AWS lost an important generative AI leader and developer in June when Vasi Philomin moved to new roles.
Philomin led, among other things, the Bedrock service and Titan models, and his departure reportedly has symbolic value as competition intensifies – at the same time, Amazon is trying to catch up with OpenAI and Google’s lead in the AI market.

Below is a story about how Amazon deployed its millionth warehouse robot and is equipping its entire fleet with new DeepFleet AI, which shortens robot travel time by about 10 percent.
The company became the largest manufacturer and operator of mobile robotics; in addition, automation leads to job losses, but new maintenance and engineering positions are still created.
CEO Andy Jassy estimates that staff will decrease in the future with the development of AI.

The article below reports that Amazon will discontinue its free streaming service Freevee in August and consolidate content into Prime, where ads were introduced in January last year.
Freevee users will be able to watch series and movies on Prime Video without a Prime membership, but with ads; ads can be removed for an additional fee.
The closure of the service is related to Amazon’s goal of simplifying its global offering and reducing costs.

Here’s a story about how AWS developed its own cooling system, the In-Row Heat Exchanger, to cool powerful Nvidia GPUs used in AI computing.
So-called off-the-shelf solutions were not sufficient for AWS’s needs, so the company decided to build its own solution, which takes up less space and uses less water.

I’m posting this here, as I’m only sharing this with investors interested in Amazon, and not others.
According to the article below, the Trump administration’s immigration policy has led to layoffs of Amazon warehouse workers, for example, the dismissal of employees from Haiti and Venezuela whose humanitarian residency programs have been canceled.
Many, such as Daphnee Poteau, have lost their jobs because they have not received new work permits. Amazon states it is complying with the new regulations and supporting employees by informing them of available “assistance”. Other companies, such as Walmart and Disney, have also had to take similar measures.

Here’s a tweet about Amazon and its operating margin. I also included the reply tweet that was there below.
https://x.com/fiscal_ai/status/1944426655054983289

The reply states that Amazon’s business profitability has clearly strengthened, e.g., cloud services and advertisements bring increasing revenue, and retail operations became more efficient with logistics reforms.
Of course, there’s a bit of an overly positive vibe in these.

Amazon is using its rival SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket to launch more of its Kuiper internet satellites into space, with the goal of competing with SpaceX’s Starlink.
Amazon quickly needs more launches to meet all regulatory requirements. The project is a rather large investment for the company, which could be worth up to $23 billion.

There shouldn’t really be anything surprising in this news, but Amazon is once again laying off employees, this time from its cloud services unit, AWS.
The exact number was reportedly not disclosed, but it’s part of the company’s longer-term cost-cutting measures, which has already been discussed in this thread.
Over 27,000 jobs have been lost since 2022. CEO Andy Jassy estimates that AI will reduce some tasks but create new ones in their place.
